nixit. Period! Definition of ‘nix’: nothing, put an end to, refusal, cancel. nixit. Period! The founders of nixit have made it their aim to nix the stigmas and shame that surround menstruation. Enough is enough! They’re encouraging women everywhere to nix the pads and tampons that have been used for so long without question and make the switch to a more comfortable and more sustainable way to manage their period. The nixit is a menstrual disc and is designed to sit above the vaginal canal – rather than lower in the vaginal canal like a traditional style cup. The nixit holds itself in place naturally, so you don’t experience any scary suction surprises, and like other menstrual discs, can be used for mess-free period sex. The double rim of the nixit is firm enough to provide great leak protection, while the cup base is so thin and soft, you won’t feel a thing.Given the different design of the nixit (and other menstrual discs), along with the fact it sits differently within the vagina, this product may be a good option for women with a tilted/retroverted uterus who have struggled with traditional style menstrual cups. nixit Features: Made from 100% medical-grade silicone that is ultra-soft, thin, and flexible.BPA freeHolds up to 70ml! How to clean the nixit During your cycle, simply rinse the nixit under cold water. It can also be given a more thorough clean using any brand of menstrual cup cleanser.Between cycles, sterilise your nixit by placing it in boiling water for 5 minutes. Try to ensure it doesn’t touch the bottom of the pot and get damaged. One way to prevent this from happening is by placing the nixit inside a whisk and then sitting the whisk into the pot. The nixit can also be sterilised using a microwave menstrual cup steriliser. After boiling, place the nixit on an absorbent surface to completely air dry.Once dry, store your nixit in its storage bag or box until next needed. nixit FAQ's Why is my nixit leaking? There are 3 common reasons why your menstrual disc might be leaking:You have not placed the disc far enough in to be sitting behind the cervix. Try inserting your disc while squatting. This position helps you position the disc deeper, making it more likely that it is positioned behind the cervix in the vaginal fornix.Your disc is hitting the front of your cervix. When inserting, try to angle your cup down towards the tip of your tailbone, rather than at an upwards angle. You are trying to ‘scoop’ your cervix into the disc. You may not have the front rim properly tucked behind your pubic bone. Feel for your pubic bone before inserting the disc, so you know where it is located. Once the disc is inserted, push the front rim up as far as you can to ensure it is tucked in place. How do I insert such a large menstrual disc? The size of your menstrual disc may be daunting. Rest assured that when you have it pinched between your fingers, its size is not much more than a regular tampon. Once inserted, the disc will pop open and you will not even know it’s there! Will the nixit fit me? The nixit is a one size fits most disc. There are some people however, who find they need a smaller diameter disc.If the nixit seems to continually ‘spring’ out of place, you may need to consider a smaller brand, like the Saalt disc. Is the nixit messy to empty? Yes, unfortunately all menstrual discs are messier to empty than bell shaped menstrual cups. To reduce the mess, try:Removing the disc slowly and at a horizontal angle to help prevent spillageGrab the rim of the disc with some toilet paper, so that any spillage gets soaked up rather than all over your fingersTry a disc that has a notch or removal tab, such as the Saalt, Hello, or Hey Zomi Empty your disc while in the shower Will my partner be able to feel the nixit? No, your partner should not be able to feel the nixit during sex. The silicone body of the nixit is petal thin and very flexible. How long does a nixit last? With careful and proper care, your nixit should last up to 5 years. Due to the paper thin nature of the silicone, take extra care while handling, especially if you have very sharp fingernails! It is also important to take care if boiling on the stove that the disc does not touch the base of the pot.It it time to replace your menstrual disc if you notice any:Tears, cuts, or holes in the siliconeAny sticky or oily residue on the siliconeStaining is normal and does not mean you need to replace your nixit. Just make sure you are correctly sterilising the disc at the start and end of each cycle. A microwave steriliser is a convenient way to do this.
