Wash the cup with water and a menstrual cup-approved soap or wash. Then sterilise it in a pot of boiling water for 20 minutes, making sure the cup does not touch the bottom of the pot and burn. Placing the cup inside a whisk can help prevent this from happening. Insertion:Wash your hands thoroughly. Find a comfortable position, either sitting, standing or squatting. Relax.Fold the cup in on itself to make it flat, and then in half to form a C shape (known as the C -fold). You may also like to experiment with other types of folds. While firmly holding the folded cup, carefully guide it rim-first into the vagina. Once inserted, let go, and allow the cup to ‘pop’ open.To ensure the cup has opened completely, slide a clean finger up next to the cup and feel all the way around it. It should not be scrunched or folded anywhere. You can use your Lunette on any day of your cycle (both heavy days and light). You can also insert your Lunette in anticipation of your period starting. The Lunette cup will usually be emptied 2-4 times a day (depending on your level of flow). It can also be worn overnight or up to 12 hours.Removal:Wash your hands and relax your pelvic floor muscles.Break the seal of the cup by squeezing the bottom ridged part of the cup. You should feel the suction release.Grasp the bottom of the cup tightly with your forefinger and thumb. Use a gentle back and forth rocking motion to ease the cup out.Do not pull the cup out by pulling the stem alone. This can break the stem and also result in spillage.Tip the contents into the toilet.Rinse and Repeat! How to clean the Lunette menstrual cup: The Lunette cup should be cleaned before and after each menstrual cycle. It should also be rinsed under cold water each time it is emptied. To help prevent odour and discolouration, thoroughly rinse the cup in cold water, THEN, you can wash with hot water and a menstrual cup wash such as the Lunette Liquid Cleanser.Your vagina is a delicate space. Use the mildest, perfume, and oil-free soap, or a specifically designed menstrual cup cleaner ONLY on your cup. This will not only preserve the life of your silicone Lunette cup but will also prevent the introduction of any chemical nasties to the vaginal environment. At the end of each cycle, the Lunette cup can be sterilised in a pot of boiling water, in a microwave menstrual cup steriliser, or by using some rubbing alcohol. Once cleaned, allow the cup to completely air dry and then store in its storage pouch, or in a ventilated container. Do not store your Lunette cup in a plastic bag or airtight container.Your Lunette cup should be replaced when any sign of damage to the silicone is observed. Lunette menstrual cup FAQ's Can I use the Lunette cup if I have a low cervix? If you have a low cervix, we would recommend the Model 1 Lunette with the stem removed. Otherwise you may like to try a cup designed specifically for a low cervix such as the Hello or Merula cup. Can I use the Lunette cup if I'm allergic to latex? Yes you can! The Lunette menstrual cup is made of 100% medical grade silicone and is latex free. How can I clean my Lunette cup in a public toilet? If you need to clean your cup in a place where you do not have access to running water, we would recommend simply wiping the cup with toilet tissue and then rinsing thoroughly when next able. You may like to take a bottle or water with you into the toilet cubicle, or you can wipe and sanitise your cup using the Lunette menstrual cup wipes. Do I need to clean the holes in the rim of my Lunette cup? Yes. It is important to clean the air holes in the rim of any menstrual cup. If these remain clogged with menstrual debris, there is the risk of infection, and the suction seal of the cup may not work properly. Normally these holes can be easily cleaned under running water, otherwise you can clean by gently poking a toothpick through them. Can I have sex while using the Lunette cup? No. Menstrual cups cannot be used during sex. They are rigid and take up a large portion of the vaginal canal. For mess free period sex, we would recommend you try a menstrual disc which is made from paper thin, soft, and flexible silicone.
